I took the whole thing apart again and with the crimping idea in mind I turned it on apart and nothing - the display was working prior to the new lcd being installed the lcd had a crack in one corner - no image at all - tried external toute still nothingit lie it's in sleep mode (with the lid closed) - the weird thing is the new screen that was sent (suppposed matching part ) look completely different than the old (the back)- can a mis matched screen nblow other components - this has ended up to a big disapointment

Unhook the LVDS/video cable for the new display from the motherboard/logic board (It might be easiest to remove the whole cable or display assembly.). Hook an external monitor up to the laptop. Reset the PRAM and SMC. Click here and click here for instructions on how to do the resets. If it is sleeping or the SMC wasn't happy this should wake it up.

What are the last 3 characters of your laptops serial number? What is the manufacturer's part number for the new LCD (It should be on a sticker on the back of it. It may also be on your invoice from your purchase.)?

Well the answer was to reset the op system by pressing Option/control/p/R

Rebooted problem fixed thanks Ifixit help desk - by the way they were ready to send a new LCD out - but thanks for the Customer Service

It's not possible for a wrong screen to become damaged, or to cause damage, as the cables just send picture signals on all standard LVDS cables (that's the flat type, ribbon connections that fit in the rear of the screen).

The actual voltage cables only go through the inverter circuit which is a totally separate part of the screen setup.

You mentioned that the laptop is now staying in sleep mode, but how do you know ? Some have the power LED flash on/off slowly so i'm assuming that is what you mean?

To know if the laptop is working when turned on, press the CAPS LOCk key a few times after turning on. The CAPS LED will flash if it's running but you just cannot see the display. If it has another type of fault, it won't change.

It's very easy to break the ribbon cables to screens even if they still look perfect, but the most common thing is that it's damaged the flat socket on the screen itself :( They often get pushed in too hard or at an angle and cause tiny faults, and ive even found ones where the cables been pushed in upside-down as they can fit either way round.

You can also test the laptop using another screen if available, any size will do as long as it has the same connection for the ribbon, and for the backlight power wires (usually 1 or 2 white or grey plugs, but only using one is fine, it just means you only get one light at one side of the screen - fine for testing).

Go over the cables and connections from the logic board to the LCD with a magnifier. You may have crimped, nicked or loosened the inverter or data display cable(s) when you closed the lid without having all components secured.

check for a image with a flashlight, if there is a image, it's the inverter, but only if it is not LED backlit

If that does not help, it's the LVDS cable or screen

Try a new screen and test, if it is still bad, read on

There is the possibility of the video being bad too

Hook it up to a external, if you get a distorted or no image, it's the motherboard

if you get a image, it is not the video card, but some other component is fried

Please give us more info, so we know what you tried already, it will make it much easier fr us to help
