Use monitor of a PowerBook with a MacBook 15''

Hi,

I have a macbookpro 15'' and my monitor is broken. Pixels can't give anymore the black color.

One of my friends gives me a broken powerbook 15'' but I believe that its monitor is smaller than mine. Can I use his monitor with my macbook pro in some other ways?

thanks

If the numbers on the sticker on back of the LCD match you can swap them. If not no.

there is no sticker on the back of my LCD.... where I can find it?

Perhaps you mean on the back of the computer?

There are two versions of displays for the Macbook Pro 15". The standard LCD displays, and LED displays. The standard displays go into the 1.83GHZ, 2.0GHZ, 2.16GHZ and 2.33GHZ models. The LED displays are only compatible with with 2.2GHz, 2.4GHz, 2.5, and 2.6GHz Santa Rosa and Penryn models. Matte and glossy screens are interchangeable within their model type.

After more digging I do not believe they will turn out to be compatible the MacBook uses a N154C1, LP154WP2 screen the Powerbook a B152EW01, LTN152W6

The sticker is on the lower (left usually) rear side of the LCD inside the cover.

+ A simple rule of thumb is: If they use the same LVDS/video cable, the LCDs will interchange. After that it is downloading the datasheets for the different LCDs and comparing pinouts. There are ways around incompatible LCDs, but not a feasible route to go - unless you have customers standing in line to purchase your work around.
