Blue power wire stripped from connector

I got an iBook G4 12" 1.33 GHz handed down to me and was told "it won't power on anymore!".

I found out why when I opened the bottom case. I saw a dangling connector with a loose blue wire and a white wire attached to the connector. The socket looks good so far. Maybe I can test that with a flat-head screwdriver later.

Presuming a realistic possibility, how can I restore the blue wire?

Hi ikvee,

You're talking of the power switch cable (blue & white wires) and connector . Is the socket desoldered from the logic board and still attached to the cable ? If so, try to find the socket location on logic board (upper left on the board). You will see two small contacts points so place the socket on these two contacts and check where the white and blue wires goes on the contact points. Write it down on a paper. You can't solder back the socket on the logic board but you can solder the blue and white wires directly on the contact points that why it's important to know their locations for polarity stuff. Now cut the two wires, strip them a bit and apply just a little solder on the wires ends with the solder iron then put each one on their specific contact point on the logic board. Apply briefly the solder iron tip on the wires ends to solder them to the logic board and that's it. Use a tiny tip cause it's really micro soldering stuff. Make sure to not bridge the two contact points. If you want to do a better job, find two wires of the same size and solder them to the logic board then fix them inside the iBook bottom case to secure the logic board welding. Then buy mini connectors (male/female) to connect the blue and white wires to the already soldered wires so your top case can be completely separated from the bottom case.

You may also apply hot glue to the two solders on the logic board. That will secure the solder job.

I hope the explanation is clear for you. Excuse my poor english writing I'm a Quebec francophone doing my best LOL...

Here is a URL for a power switch--speaker setup for G3 which I think will work with your G4. If you look at the item you can probably tell if it will suit your needs. If not you would need to find the same item for a G4 or replace the top cover witch should come with them installed. Check iFixit for that. Ralph

Ralph can work you through this if given enough information. You said you opened the bottom case and saw the dangling connector. Was it coming out the battery compartment or did you open the upper case? If so can you locate the origin point of the wires and tell us? Look at the tear down and see if you can relate it, is it the blue and white wires that you see here? … iBook G4 12" 1.33 GHz Inverter/AirPort Cables Replacement

I did the same to my iBook. I was pulling the powerswitch wire from the logic board and the socket broken from the logic. The cable is fine but the socket is not on the logic anymore. I glued it but now i guess that the glue isolate the electric....what do you think? what i should do? thank you so much...I am very new at this! I can send photos if you can, my email is wgamozart@hotmail.com

See Lemerise answer above. The only other solution is to replace the logic board. Ralph
