Can I use without a service plan?
i just got a verizon iphone 4 but i dont have verizon is there a way to use the phone just as an ipod?

maybe it's different in the U.S.A but generally if no sim is inserted in an iPhone then the phone is just an iPod. Is verizon a no SIM provider?

yes its cdma the only way to activate it is by putting in your plan details which i dont have that carrier
I do exactly this. I have a 16 GB Verizon iPhone 4 that doesn't have service.
I use the WiFi for data like you would with an iPod Touch. I refer to it as my iPhone Touch. ;-)
Bonus - if you leave the cellular radio on, the GPS functions work. You can get offline maps and use it like a personal GPS navigation system. If you turn off the cellular radio, then battery life improves.
