Flash will not charge it remains red and no flash
Flash will not charge or fire. It remains red and never turns green. Blink and continuous are both off

The camera battery could potentially be the culprit if it's not able to provide enough power for the flash. I'd make sure the battery is fully charged as well as trying with a different battery in case the one you were using isn't good anymore.
If that doesn't work, I'm inclined to think it could be the capacitor that has gone bad. There's also some other parts of the flash system that could be the issue otherwise.
