MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011 Won't Boot After Carefully Stored

Hi everyone :)

I recently pulled my old MacBook Air from storage to try and use it to create a bootable installer for my iMac that has a failed hard drive. The first 45 watt MagSafe power adaptor I used did absolutely nothing - the light on the end of the plug did not light up, and the computer had no response. Then, I tried another MagSafe I had lying around, this time an 85 watt, and the light on the end of the connecter did light up, but there was still no response from the computer, not even a startup sound. I let the computer charge, and the light went from yellow to green after a while, but there was still no response from the little MacBook. I plugged in a USB thumb drive with a light inside it, kind of like a power indicator. When I pressed the power button, the light briefly flashed on, then instantly off. I have stored this computer in tissue paper inside a shoebox for a few years in a storage facility that is relatively dry. The last time I used the computer before it was put in storage, it was fine, except for some small damage I had done to the screen. Could I please get some info on what the issue might be, and how to fix it? Thank you.

Sadly, it does sound like your systems battery wasted away in storage. Lithium-Ion battery’s don’t store well if either no charge or full charge.

The next shoe to fall here is the chemistry within the battery ages so a battery which is over 3~4 years degrades and if still older can be to far gone. Here we have a 2011 system so just based on its year we have over 12 years of age.

Now for the last shoe to fall! The act of discharging and then charging the battery can consume a cycle! There is a limit of how many times this can happen. The expected number is about 1000 times but that’s is not a guarantee! As well as always leaving the system under charge as well as heat and cold can also affect things.

So you have a double whammy! As your MacBook Air needs a new battery at least MacBook Air 11" (Mid 2011-Early 2015) Battery and here’s the guide to put it in MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011 Battery Replacement it’s quite easy!

Hopefully that solves your Air’s problem!

Replace a 5100 mAh battery compatible with the MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011 to Early 2015 A1370 and A1465 model laptop. 38.75 Watt Hours (Wh). 7.6 Volts (V). Battery model A1495. 이미지
