Where to buy replacement logic board or is cross-grading possible?

I cooked my i7 2.8Ghz logic board. Spillage. Stupidity. Late night gaming. The local indie Mac shop estimated near $2000 for the repair. Too much for my pockets for a year and 1/2 old machine I paid a third more for. I want to repair it myself but I can't seem to locate the specific model/processor logic board replacement, on iFixit or elsewhere. Any suggestions of where to look? Or is it possible to cross-grade into an i5 board, given physical tolerances of the uni-body and internal peripheral compatibilities? Any suggestions or help would greatly appreciated. Thanks, folks.

Note: I have found late-2008 and mid-2009 2.8Ghz logic boards but have been led to believe these will not retro fit to my 2010 model.

I'm back in need of help, again. Same machine as above. My "new" i7 2.66 logic board ,purchased from the suggested laptopparts01.com, has been installed per the iFixit guide. When I boot the computer, the chassis status/power light glows but I get no other system responses. No display, no keyboard backlight, no audio startup chime, etc.. The external video out is not active either. Should my laptop boot as per normal after the hardware exchange or is there a another step outside the iFixit logic board removal/installation guide I'm missing? My fear is the "new" logic board is DOA. NOTE: the original, damaged logic board is an i7 2.8 GHz. It functioned post spill damage but would not display local video and the ethernet port no longer functioned. The initial technician's assessment was the logic board was damaged and replacing it would resolve the issues. The new and old logic boards are visually identical. Any assistance would be greatly

I appreciate the help, and the link, but none of the search results are relevant to my mid-2010 15"/ i7/2.8Ghz model.

Thank you very much.

There you go - having all the particulars makes a big difference in locating parts.

Please give us the last three figures of your serial number as I can not find that the 2,8 GHz machine was even produced in 2010.

Thank you for the research. Is it your opinion, a cross grade to the 2.66GHZ board from my defective 2.8Ghz would be physically possible?

The 2.66 GHz logic board was "stock" for your machine. I can't imagine having a problem physically replacing it.
