iBook fan spins

My iBook has been slowly breaking and has finally gone today. It started with the screen sometimes not turning off when I closed it, then the screen remained black when I opened it. Just yesterday it started going black while I was using it and once it booted up but the 'Starting Mac OS X' window remained in the center of the screen. Today, when I power on the fan spins and doesn't stop. The display does nothing and I can't activate Target Disk Mode etc.

Is this a logic board problem?

I would remove the RAM, battery, Airport, and then reset the PMU and PRAM. The first time you power it on after removing the RAM, reset the PRAM x3 times (i.e. let it chime x3 times after the initial chime) -- this does a full PRAM reset and can be more effective than a single PRAM reset. I've found this procedure to occasionally make a machine work again that has a blank screen and a fan on high.

Also, whenever a screen is black, it's important to shine a flashlight on the screen from behind (through the Apple symbol) in order to determine if the screen is actually blank, or if the backlight is dead/off. People always say a dead backlight is caused by a bad inverter, but I've found countless times that replacing the whole screen more often solves a dead backlight issue, and the inverter is rarely a problem, at least in iBooks.

It certainly sounds like one. There is a possibility that it's the hard drive, RAM, or even the optical drive causing issues with it. With the video symptoms, though, I think the logic board is indeed the problem.
