How do you remove the whole In-Dash Ignition

My friend has a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am that when he stopped and turned the car off it would not let him turn the key. He had it towed and had another friend try to break the ignition. That of coarse ruined the ignition. Now he needs to replace the whole thing. Now there is some kind of cable or wiring on that back of the ignition that I cannot get off. How do you Remove this connection?
