My car wont start not even dash lights work causes this

Hello,

try the following:

First, start with the most common problem for your symptoms, the battery.

• If you have a multimeter, try measuring it's voltage, it should be above 11.8 volts, ideally around 12.5 volts. If you don't have a multimeter, that's fine, jump to the next part.
• Check the battery terminals and connectors. The connectors should be tightly clamped to the battery terminals, also the terminals and connectors shouldn't be corroded (white powder like stuff on the terminals is corrosion), if they are corroded, undo the connectors from the battery and using a metal wire brush or sandpaper, lightly brush/sand the battery terminals and interior of the connectors, then just clamp the connectors back in place and don't forget tighten them down. If no corrosion is present, jump to the next step.

Secondly, check the main fuses of the car.

• On your model, the main fuses are located in the fuse box under the bonnet on the left hand side of the car, towards the windshield, above the battery. You will see a black box (NOT the one with the tube coming out of it) right in the left corner of the engine compartment. You will have to open this box up. It is closed with two clamps, on two sides, After you pop open the cover you will see many fuses and relays, the fuses you are interested are: IGN 2, IGN 1 and B/UP LP (you will find a simple diagram on the inside of the fuse box cover to guide you to the mentioned fuses.). To check this fuses, firstly look at them and observe if there is any burnt spots (black spots, or molten plastic), if none are visible then, pull the fuses one by one out their places and using a multimeter (if available) check them for open circuits (set the multimeter on Buzzer/Continuity mode, if the multimeter beeps, the fuse is good, if not, it is blown), if no multimeter is available, you can try to see trough the plastic of the fuse and observe if the interior metal part is severed, another option is to use a battery and a LED to pass some current trough the fuse and see if the LED lights up or not. If, after you checked every fuse you find one that's blown, replace it with a new one. (Test the fuses one by one and remember the place and orientation they were in, do not mix them up).
• If you found a blown fuse, there is a bigger concern, it means something in that circuit malfunctioned or is actively malfunctioning and causes the fuse to blow. At this point I would recommend going to a specialist for thorough inspection, especially if you are not qualified or talented in this field. The fuse replacement is just a temporar fix and continued operation without proper maintenance could seriously break the car or even injure you.

The third and final potential issue is the ignition switch.

• The ignition switch is what completes the circuit to power up the car when you turn the key. A faulty switch can prevent power from getting to the dash and other components. If the battery and fuses are good, the ignition switch is a strong possibility. This is a more complicated repair and usually requires a professional diagnosis. So again, if you don't have experience or qualification to fix it yourself, please go to a specialist.
