Help identifying ripped cable on iPad screen (top edge)

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a parted screen assembly on eBay, there is a ripped flex cable on this screen assembly located at the very top edge of the display assembly.

It is not one of the main display or digitizer cables, although the LCD has defects likely from heat, I’ve connected the screen and both the LCD and touch functions are still mostly functional, and these cable connects at the bottom of the screen... I believe this cable is also separate from the main Face ID and TrueDepth Camera assembly flex, as the repair guide shows them as separate assemblies.

The rip is on the thin flex that runs along the top of bezel, could anyone help me identify what does cable is and what function it serves?

If touch still works, try Apple Pencil, maybe that cable is for the pencil sensors.

I'm with Tom; it's likely that the Apple Pencil support uses an entirely separate digitizer than the touch screen uses. If that's the case, then you likely won't be able to use an Apple Pencil, but the regular touch screen for use with your fingers should be fine. If that's acceptable, just button it up and don't worry about the Pencil digitizer.

Hi there,
This cable is part of the digitiser.
It's glued to the glass and wraps around the LCD panel.

Some zones might not respond to touch.
It looks like you've been lucky since the touch is mostly functional.

Apart from the touch functions, nothing should be affected by it.

Maybe this cable is still lead to screen or digitizer, but serves the half of it, so ripping it down does not completely affect the functions?

If it’s showing signs of heat send it back. I don’t think it’s a cheap screen even though it’s pulled. You ordered a working replacement screen and you didn’t get that.
