Looking at buying a system with a broken screen

Sadly the newer Apple laptops really can't have its display removed without creating other problems. Here Apple integrated sensors within the display lid and its associated logic monitoring a collection of sensors and data signals for system health monitoring via the SMC logic. When you alter things as drastically as removing the display things can break!

Without the display lid present the system can't tell if the lid is up or down to then alter which display is the primary, the SMC logic also will throttle the processor logic due to thermal input error as the display thermal sensor is missing.

OS updates won't install properly as the display ID is not seen as it's now missing.

Using a system with a damaged LCD panel is still possible! Here you use the system in what is called Clam Shell Mode!

Replacing the display is not cheap! As you will need to access their paywall calibration site to complete the repair.
