Hello, the only things i found about this issue are all related to the GameCube not being able to read the disc, so I'm just going to assume that's the problem here.

First, the disc laser could be dirty, which can prevent it from functioning properly. Cleaning it carefully might resolve the issue. Another possibility is that the laser was knocked loose; realigning it carefully could fix it. Additionally, checking for any faulty connections inside the GameCube could help identify the problem.

so should i open it up?

If you are comfortable opening the Gamecube, go ahead. I'd personally watch a tutorial on YouTube, so you don't accidentally damage it.

the screwdrivers arrived and i took out the disk drive, what next

ok i flipped a lever and it started spinning but when i let go of the lever, the lver goes back and it stops spinning

Hi!

Yes this is normal!

So it does sound that there is something with the lever!

If you hold it, does it read it correctly as well? If yes, then the laser is fine!

I would replace the lever completely and see how that works out :)!

Hi!

Cleaning the laser is a nice first step! You don’t need to open it for this.

What also could be thing is the sensor. Which is located on the drive. Could also be the laser which is faulty OR the capacitors which failed…

Unfortunately, there are multiple components that can cause it.

To give you a idea how to replace the laser: Nintendo GameCube Optical Laser Lens Replacement

I would check if the sensor isn’t broken and still look fine. Try to manually press the lever on the sensor and see if something happens (when you took the top case off).

If you are not sure, you can sent some pictures to us.

the lens isnt moving. could that be the problem?

Hi!

Could be the laser that simply won't detect the disk. Could be the sensor (only way to find out is to open it up).

The capacitors are less likely, because the Gamecube is trying to read at that moment.

i will message again once the gamebit screwdriver arrives. thanks though

My pleasure! Good luck with the repair and please let us know how it goes!
