Can't offer you an answer on how much it will cost to swap out your hard drive to a SSD and move your hard drive over to the DVD player location (best setup). Here's the guide on replacing the hard drive iFixIt guide and here's the DVD guide iFixIt guide to give you an idea what you need to do.
Here's the iFixIt kits you'll need. Optical bay SATA HD/SSD frame Plus you'll need the SSD.
There is no way to upgrade the system to USB 3.0
