3TG internal hard drive head sensor compatible?

Hi,

I am looking for a 3TG internal drive to replace my died 750GB in my 24" Intel iMac. I know it has a heat sensor attached to the side of the original Apple drive. Will this recommended drive ([연계 제품이 누락 또는 비활성화 됨: IF107-109]) have the same sensor connector built-in? Or I will need to get the $30 software solution to control the full speeding fan?

thx

Calvin

If you review the iFixIt guide for you system you'll find the very last step talks about the thermal sensor which you will need to remove from your old drive and re-attach to your new HD. You don't need any fan control software,

HD thermal sensor

You still may have heat issues with this HD bigger drives tend to run hotter. This iMac's cooling system may not be able to handle the added heat. As with 'everything 'your mileage will vary' some people don't push their drives that hard, others do. If you tend to push a lot of files watch lots of movies or TV shows in iTunes, you may encounter heat issues. I would strongly recommend using the app 'Temperature Gauge' which you can find in the Apps Store to monitor things. A good idea is to map out what you are seeing now with your current HD and then see how much of a change you see after upgrading. In any case I would not use any fan control software as you'll more likely cook your system than cool it when using it in this case.

Thx Dan,

How is the thermal sensor attach to the drive? Is there a connector or some kind of glue?

Since my original internal drive is already died. So I can't take any reading on how hot it runs from it. So if you think 3TG is too hot for this iMac. What is the max. size you think I can use?

Many thanks.

Glued on, be careful! not to damage it and place it back on the main drives casting like it currently is. As I stated many have no problems with the larger drive as they aren't pushing it, yet other do. So I can't give you a easy answer here, If you go with the larger 3Gig HD monitor your heat. A 2Gig drive will be cooler will that meet your needs? There's nothing wrong using an external HD. Frankly, that's where I store my TV & movie files.

thx Dan.
