Can you replace the current harddrive with a larger capacity hardrive. I currently have a 160GB one but wouldnt mind putting a 1TB harddrive in there if its at all possible? Thank you.

can these harddrives still be bought? if so where?

I have the same two questions. Anyone know please? How can I live without my ATV1? No-one else, not even Apple, has made anything since that does the job of playing music and photos as well.

And if I replace the disk how doesthe Apple OS get transferred? (PC User)

Yes, you can through a 1TB drive into it. Yes, drives can be bought for them still, you can go online and search for them or you can try the good ol 'bay and find them there as well. You'd have to transfer the OS yourself using a USB drive to reinstall it or clone your current drive over and it will see it exactly the same as it was before.

Which is the procedure to install the OS X again on a new drive?? Read something about store it on a USB stick and plug it into the ATV. But how can you follow up the process? Connecting it with an UTP to the iMac (and follow up on screen with the ATV menu) or connect it with an HDMI to the TV set? No idea how this can be done…

A new hard drive needs to have the Apple TV operation system installed on it. Search on the Internet for an Apple TV 1st Generation restore image and follow the instructions. It involves copying it to a USB memory stick in a special way, inserting it into the Apple TV, and booting the Apple TV while holding down the Menu and + buttons on the remote control.

The Apple TV 1st Generation connects to a hard drive with the old Parallel ATA (PATA) interface, not the newer Serial ATA (SATA) interface. I’ve read that it can use a Compact Flash (CF) card with a CF-to-PATA adapter (and it runs much cooler than having a spinning hard disk), but I haven’t had any success with the adapters I’ve tried. Make sure it is an adapter to the 44-pin variant of PATA that is used for laptop hard drive — not the more common 40-pin PATA interface.

Is this just a typical laptop hard drive?
