Start by removing the back cover.

Remove the micro usb connector, the audio jack and the 3 ph000 screws on the board.

This will allow you to push out the metal mid-frame

Once screws are all out, gently lift the broken digitizer. Make sure to lift between the display assembly and the black border.

If I’m just switching boards, is it even necessary to remove the battery? Can’t I just switch the boards with the batteries still attached to their respective boards? I just don’t see the point of removing the battery unless you are replacing it.
If you are replacing the board and the battery, and can reach the retention clips under the board to lift the board out of the case, I guess it could be possible to replace both parts without separating them.

So I can confirm that you do not need to remove the battery to switch the boards. You can leave it stuck to the board.
