If your R70 remains on red (rather than green) after charging over 8 hours, you may assume the battery is knackered. Refrence the photo, you need to get to the insides to replace it. (1) to remove the metal surrounding to the red plastic you will need to create (say with a knife) an indent to allow you to use a small screwdriver head to lever it off. You can see where I have done this in the photo. (2) The metal surronding to the remaining bottom side: this should be easy to lever off. You should detedt in the photo that this is thin surrounding has been detached and pushed to the back of the light.
Remove the red light cover to observe the circuit board (see the "Steps" photo).
Now the tricky part: finding a replacement battery. I will never buy Knogg again until, like Apple, they stop protecting their commercial interests over re-usability. The battery (in the main photo) is an unusual size: "851746": in mm: height 8.5, width 17, length 46. You could spend hours looking for this on Tinternet, I did, and it suggests to me that Knogg have deliberately made this obscure: be ashamed of yourselves, very ashamed.
Eventually, I found a couple of candidates, regrettably on eBay:
1) 702050 height 7.0, width 20, length 50 (the width is was too much risk vs. 17mm): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172447064622
2) 801350 height 8.0, width 13, length 50 (the length is a squeeze, I will update if it squeezes in once deliverd from Shenzen in a month): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254702307003?...
UPDATE: 801350 fits
3) I fitted 801350 OK, it was difficult to get the slim water proof rubber seal around the light so I added electrical tape around to ensure water proof.

This is the bottom of the circuit board that you will see, the battery wires are the black and red: you need to detach them from teh circuit board with a soldering gun, ready to solder in the new battery with its connectin wires.

very interesting attempt....please do update how you went with this....
my R70 is taking soooooo long to charge now, so I'm very much interesting in attempting this battery change...
Agreed....Knog does appear to discourage any sort of attempt at repairs....rather dismissive on the emails when trying to get advice re how to do so...

I managed to do the change fine based on the above. I did seal the light with black insulating tape around it though since the seals seem single use.
