This guide will demonstrate how to remove the front display on the LG G Pad 10.1. Keep in mind that the front display should only be removed if you intend to replace it, so if that is not your goal please refer back to the troubleshooting page to rethink your process. Remember to not proceed with this guide unless you have a replacement screen ready, as these steps will potentially further damage your current screen.

  1. To remove the back panel of the device, start by attempting to fit the plastic opening tool in the crease between the screen and the back panel of the tablet.
    • To remove the back panel of the device, start by attempting to fit the plastic opening tool in the crease between the screen and the back panel of the tablet.

    • You can use your hands to push against the corners of the device to attempt to make the gap larger for your plastic opening tool to fit in.

    • If you are replacing your screen because it is damaged, it may be useful to pick away at some of the glass to expose the clips in the edges of the plastic.

    • Insert the corners of your plastic opening tool into the slots that are on the very outside edge of your device to start disconnecting the panel.

  2. Once the edge of your device's panel is separate from the screen, continue moving around the outside of the device while continuing to pry the two pieces apart from each other.

  3. Insert another plastic opening tool (or a similar tool) between the screen and the back panel on the opposite side of the device to hold it open.

  4. There is a piece of double sided tape on the back of the battery holding it in place. Pull the battery with enough force to pull it apart from the tape.

    • Use the spudger to pry the clip to disconnect it.

  7. You need to melt the glue holding the screen to the device.
    • You need to melt the glue holding the screen to the device.

    • Turn on your heat gun or hair dryer and hold it approximately one-inch from the edge of the device.

    • This step may take some time, so be patient. Continue melting the glue around all edges of the device.

  8. When the glue is melted, it is time to remove the screen from the device.
    • When the glue is melted, it is time to remove the screen from the device.

    • Starting at the corners, use the suction cup to pull up the screen as much as possible. The screen should lift enough to fit the plastic opening tool in the gap.

    • If the screen is not pulling up at all, continue to use the heat gun or hair dryer to melt the glue before returning to this step.

  9. Once the screen starts to detach from the device, insert the plastic opening tool into the gap and begin to pry the screen.
    • Once the screen starts to detach from the device, insert the plastic opening tool into the gap and begin to pry the screen.

    • Continue prying the screen by slowly sliding the plastic opening tool around the edges of the device until the screen loosens.

    • It may take several tries to get the screen to detach from the device. Every time you circle the device with the plastic opening tool, be sure to put increasing amounts of pressure to release the glass. Since the glass is being replaced, it is okay when it starts to crack. This may even make this step easier.

  10. Use the plastic opening tool to push the screen up entirely from the device, You may need to use your hands for this. If you do, it is advised to use gloves to avoid any of the broken glass from getting in your hands.

    • If the screen is still hard to remove at this step, continue using the heat gun or hair dryer to melt the remaining glue while you are trying to pull up the screen.

  11. Now that the screen has been removed, clean up the remaining glue and glass shards around the edges of the device.

Is there a place where one can purchase the glass for this? And can one do the glass only repair on this like you can an iPad without any uv lights and glue?

my lg 700 was dropped. the outer glass was cracked but i cant tell if i need the lcd screen also. the device doesn't respond to any screen commands at all, it just turns on and then the screen goes into the regular power save. does this mean i need an lcd too? or is it expected that the unit wont take any commands if the outer glass is cracked. my only comparison is an iphone 4 that was driven over with the glass completely shattered, but the apps still responded through the shattered glass. any ideas?

The full LCD assembly is required, the glass is LOCA to the LCD, parts are available on ebay.

What does it mean the glass is LOCA to the LCD? I ordered a replacement glass for mine without the LCD. My LCD seems to be fine. Is it necessary to complete this full removal or is there a way to just affix the glass to the LCD?

Mark MacLachlan - 답글

Mark MacLachlan - LOCA is Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive - Here is more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_opt...

Having just done this repair, it is nearly impossible, even with a heat plate, to separate the digitizer from the LCD without scratching or damaging the LCD, and the time alone is not worth it. Buy the LCD/Digitizer as one unit.
