The front panel is one of the main components of the D5100 chassis, protecting the delicate circuitry and parts within. This guide will teach you how to remove and replace it.

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove 7 Phillips #00 screws from the front panel of the camera chassis. • Remove the Phillips #00 screw hidden deep within the compartment.

    • You may need to use a screwdriver extender to accomplish this.

  5. Firmly separate the front panel from the main camera body. You will feel some resistance since the chassis parts fit tightly together; this is to be expected.

I am about to replace the front panel of my D5100; I have the replacement panel already and it appears some things are inaccurate here. The two screws shown in the third picture of step 2 would not affect the front panel; instead there are two screws on the side next to the connector port that must be removed. It also appears there is no screw in the middle of the hand grip since there is no hole in my replacement panel. There do appear to be two screws on the side of the hand grip, making a total of three under the grip. Nonetheless, this is very helpful, and I thank you.

Where did you get the replacement? Because I have a crack in my front panel but I can't find where to get a new one…
