How to replace broken battery cover on Nikon F75 or N75, or U2 in Japan home market, SLR film camera.
This camera was introduced in early 2003 alongside digital SLRs, and is the last consumer level Nikon film SLR camera. It runs off two CR2 batteries under a small plastic cover. This cover has a metal contact plate underneath which is secured to the plastic cover itself by four small plastic rivets. Because the batteries exert fairly strong spring pressure, over time these will fatigue and the plate will break off, releasing the spring loaded sliding clip. I did not photograph individual steps in this repair, but it is quite simple.

You will need two screws about 2mm long and 1.5 mm in diameter salvaged from other cameras or lenses, or from a small screw assortment - I think these are about M2 size but I have nothing else to compare. See photo.

The repair is shown here completed, with the screws in place. Use the small round file to enlarge the rivet holes in the metal plate slightly. Then hold the metal plate in place and use the 1.3mm drill to drill about 3mm depth into the plastic cover, where the plastic rivets were located. The plastic is quite thick.
