Place the chair horizontally, putting it on its side.

The base is connected to the chair either with retaining clips or nuts and bolts at its center.
Remove the retaining clips or unscrew the nuts and bolts with a wrench or drill.
Remove the base of the chair.

Place a pipe wrench on the gas cylinder, and spray it with WD-40 to lubricate it and make it easier to remove.
Twist and pull the wrench to loosen the cylinder and remove it from its place.
