    • Remove screw with screw diver and lift metal plate with tweezers.

    • Pick up left end of the electrical tape

    • Lift up to remove USB plug from the mounting location.

Before fitting the new charging port look on the reverse side of the part for the ‘lego’ style connector. Be aware when refitting that this needs to fully click home to the main board.

Once the USB port is in place and the connector clicked home fit the single screw to the right.

Now check the tablet is charging (remember to wait for 10 to 15 seconds for the red light). If you don't get a light check the connector is fully engaged.

Once you are happy it is charging disconnect the micro USB cable and refit the plastic and the metal charging port retainer (2 screws).

Check it still charges okay, if so refit the back (the existing glue should be okay for normal use - however it is now obviously not got any water resistance )

I was able to replace the usb port but my tablet still wont charge or be recognized as usb when connected to PC. What can this be? Any idea? Please I need help.

I also replace charging port with same result, I was not able to find a solution online so until I can find a magnetic docking station for sale I have bypassed the charging port and connected my usb direct to the battery with 100% result.

My tablet never goes outdoors so the waterproof covers is not needed, bloody well good job as there now is a usb cable poking out the cover and sealed closed with electrial type

I was able to replace my connector after much difficulty (the part I received wasn't the exact size so I had to cut a little bit and force a lot!). I worked great... For approx. 2 weeks. Now I'm back to square one. I was wondering if it would be possible to fabricate a magnetic dock (or similar), since the official one seems impossible to find?

I replaced the usb port and had the same problem as esteeizola because my battery was completely drained. (IMHO Sony has a design fault with their USB ports. They are rubish. If you get more than 200 plug/unplug operations out of a Sony USB you are very lucky).

What happened was that USB drew 4 to 5 milli-amps for about 10 to 12 amps. During this time the red led was lit but the device remained dead. Finally, USB started drawing a normally charging current (a very pathetic 300 milli-amps from what I can tell.) And the device came to life say the battery was 2% charged.

I don't what the reason is for this behavior but it certainly is very confusing and frustrating,

Awesome, but where do I get the part??? I'm unable to find a replacement microUSB port for my Sony Xperia Z for sale. Anyone have a link?

Hi John....I hope this helps...I am about to order this part myself for my Xperia tablet from amazon.ca

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00Y2MOC...

I have been also trying to find the Charging Cradle for Xperia Tablet Z (SGPDS5) here in Canada...and was only able to find one at amazon.com....but they will not ship to Canada.

Hope that helps

+1 for replacing the adhesive! Is there any way to ensure the tablet remains water resistant after this repair?

Important to note, The installation requires that a small motherboard connection close to the usb external part has been plugged by pressure. Without that the connection is not completed.

Hello helpers

My Sony Xperia tablet Z SGP311 had a problem with the charging port, after replacement by a new one, the battery now is fully charged but the tablet wouldn’t start!! The only sign of life is when connecting the charging cable, so the screen stock in blank just after the logo screen and the 100% charged battery screen.

I’ve tried all the ways to reboot it, but nothing worked, power + volume up, power + volume down, power+ 2 volume buttons or even disconnecting the battery!!

It seems like that the power button is not working! But even with connecting the power cable it’s not working!!

Any idea

Thank you

I can’t quite remember how I did it but you need to get a small charge and reset the device by poking the reset button. Then you can do the volume + power button or whatever else is necessary. You can tell by what colour the lights flash.

Probably way too late to be useful but I was able to build my own magnetic dock (without the magnets). I just split a USB cable and soldered them onto 2 pogo pins. I used cardboard to build a tablet stand and marked up where the contacts and pogo pins should meet. It’s ugly and a little finicky but it works.
