Apple released the iPad Air on October 22, 2013. As with the 4th Generation iPad Retina, the iPad Air uses a Lightning port and has a 2048x1536 (264 ppi) display. The external similarities end there. The iPad Air is lighter by nearly half a pound and all case dimensions have shrunk a bit when compared to the previous iPad generation. Case colors are either a white front with a silver back or a black front with a gunmetal gray back.
The iPad Air Wi-Fi/Cellular model was offered in 16, 32, 64, or 128 GB capacities, supports A-GPS, and for cellular service supports AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint in the US and nearly all major carriers around the world. iPad Air models have a dual core 64-bit 1.4 GHz Apple A7 processor and an M7 motion coprocessor.
The most commonly needed repairs for the first generation iPad Air are cracked screens and dead battery replacements. iFixit has the best iPad Air displays and iPad Air batteries on the market, along with a complete catalog of other first generation iPad Air parts for the less common part swaps.
All first generation iPad Air repairs will require a set of standard precision electronics tools.
