Check the back of the machine for an opening slender enough for a sock to get in. Also, the bottom of the machine is often open to the floor. Tilt the machine and check. Of course small children and gremlins are a possibility.

The burning smell is probably the belt which drives the brush. The motor armature will burn it in half if you don’t free up the brush or belt. Follow the instructions for replacing the belt to get in to the motor head and eyeball the armature where it contacts and drives the belt.

I’m working on a friends LG tv and it’s the same symptoms. I believe the backlight has gone out. It’s usually made up of light emmiting diodes. One or more have fried. As the LEDS are usually is series to drop a pretty high voltage, one going out stops the others from lighting. A good test (see on you tube) is shining a flashlight on the screen while the TV is on to see if you can detect a picture. Its called ‘the flashlight test’ - go figure. Pushing the menu button puts up a stable image. Do it in a darkened room. If you see a sort of ghost image, its the backlight. Troubleshooting it further will be difficult as you don’t really know why the light is out and tearing it apart requires some expertise. It could be a printed circuit board? To get to the LED’s you have to remove the fragile and delicate screen. Crack it and its new TV time. If you are not a techie, take it in for service, but mention you know its the backlight to keep from being bamboozled.

The 18650 Li-ion is becoming  very common and can be purchased even at Walmart.  However be sure to buy them with the proper terminal for your use.  The standard ‘D’ or ‘AA’ ends that fit into a holder like a flashlight or TV remote shold not be used in a tool that requires a ‘tab’ on the battery for soldering to a wire. Attention ALL: This was my original question. I ended up putting it in the shop and the tech (from experience) tried everything I did EXCEPT he added one little thing. He pulled the battery maintaining the BIOS !!! He explained that if an upgrade had been done (it had), the BIOS would revert to a basic version without the cell. Long story short, IT Worked and the backlight started functioning again.
