Head of Translation & Community at iFixit
Hi! I’m Sandra Hiller and I joined iFixit back in October 2016 as Translations Department Head. In addition to that, I took over the Lead in Community Management in early 2020. iFixit aspires to be the world’s primary source for repair information and I want to support our translation and community teams in their quest that everyone in the world should have the opportunity to access and understand iFixit‘s content and participate in and contribute to all aspects of iFixit‘s community – no matter what language they speak or what cultural background they have. Born into a family with a German father and a French mother, multi-language communication and the recognition of different cultures has been a focal point for me since a very young age.
Education
I received a diploma in International Business Administration from ESA, and have further qualifications in Romance Languages, and Political Sciences from the University of Stuttgart. In those early years during and after my education, I was eager to broaden my view and improve my language skills, and as I didn’t want to limit this to tourist only activities, I volunteered for a workcamp in Turkey, made an internship in France, and took on temporary posts in Greece and Spain later.
Experience
I look back on 22 years of professional experience, most of which I spent in the position of executive assistant, e.g. with L’Oréal, ERAI, NUM AG, Witt Weiden, and Human Connection. I worked as a teacher and department head with Helen Doron for over 2 years, and was an export agent with ProGlass for over 4 years. The tasks and industries varied quite a bit, so that I gained deep insights into very different areas of business, but of course, translation and foreign language communication have always stayed a focus.
When I first learned about the concept of repair revolution, I was immediately hooked and soon after, I managed to start off a Repair Café in my home town. More about that can be found here and here. iFixit was a great help back then and when I got the chance to put my talents at their service, I felt this was the perfect place for me.
My Favorite Piece of Tech…
… is my iPad Air. Not because I’m very convinced by it’s ecological design, but simply because I use it every day and find it very practical. We must have changed the front panel 3 or 4 times already, and I believe it’ll soon be time for a new battery, but I am determined to keep it alive as long as I can.
More About Me
I have a 17 year old son who will graduate from high school this year. I’m thrilled that I shall be witnessing his first steps into the “real world” and so excited to accompany his orientation. We have two cats, and are both big Harry Potter fans. I enjoy getting outdoors whenever I can, especially hiking and gardening, and of course I like traveling.

We have not yet started localizing the iFixit Guides and Wikis into Latvian, I would suggest you to fill in this form to be one of the first to be contacted as soon as we get started in Latvian and bring forward our mission to share how to fix anything with the entire world.
However, a team of volunteers has already started localizing the iFixit user interface into Latvian, but there is still lots of work to do. We are using an open web translation software which is called "Crowdin". If you'd like to begin right away and take a look, you can just follow this link and create an account to start translating: https://crowdin.net/project/ifixit, but I would recommend that you read the specific guidelines first: https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Crowdin. Uns ist bewusst, dass die Debatte ums Gendern derzeit sehr emotional geführt wird und hier jeweils extreme Einstellungen in beide Richtungen geäußert werden. Mit dem kurzen Abschnitt, den wir hier eingefügt haben, wollen wir dem Rechnung tragen und erläutern, für welche Vorgehensweise wir uns - zumindest vorläufig - intern entschieden haben. Die meisten unserer Texte werden aus dem Amerikanischen übersetzt und es wäre uns auch lieber, wenn die Übertragung zum Beispiel der dort gebräuchlichen neutralen Berufsbezeichnungen ins generische Maskulinum ebenso selbstverständlich auch im Deutschen als neutral empfunden würden. Da dies jedoch scheinbar nicht für alle so selbstverständlich ist, wollen wir sicherstellen, dass sich auf unserer Plattform niemand ausgeschlossen fühlt. Die Entscheidung, wie Sie ihre Beiträge formulieren möchten, bleibt jedoch Ihnen überlassen: Wir würden keine Beiträge ablehnen oder beim Lektorat ändern, nur um beispielsweise Sternchen einzufügen.

Hi @bp_t628 ! , thank you so much for your comment, we really appreciate it! We’re glad to confirm that we already support translation into Korean! While the translation of guides isn’t yet open for volunteers, the translation of Wikis should already be open for you. You'll find a list of popular Wikis that need translation here: https://ko.ifixit.com/Translate?filter=w.... To start translating, change your language setting to "KO" on the top right and then the "edit" button will automatically also change into a button called "번역”. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out to translate@ifixit.com!
Bei einem aufgeblähten Akku muss man tatsächlich sehr vorsichtig sein. Ob das immer gleich heißen muss, dass man das Gerät wegwerfen muss, wage ich zu bezweifeln, ich würde zunächst einmal schauen, welche anderen Teile eventuell in Mitleidenschaft gezogen worden sind und ob die ebenfalls austauschbar sind. schade, dass dir die Anleitung bisher nicht geholfen hat. Stand heute haben bereits 35 andere Nutzer ihr Gerät damit erfolgreich repariert, deshalb wäre es gut zu wissen, was genau bei dir nicht geklappt hat und wo es hakt?
Unsere Anleitungen werden nach dem Wikipedia-Prinzip geschrieben, das heißt du kannst auch selbst jederzeit noch zusätzliche Punkte hinzufügen oder Änderungen vornehmen, die besser beschreiben, was hilft, damit für diejenigen, die nach dir diese Reparatur versuchen, eine noch umfassendere Dokumentation zur Verfügung steht.
