I'm not a program.
But what if I’m just programmed to think that…?
And who am I?
That’s one secret I’ll never tell… You know you love me. xoxo.
Really though, I think that question is one that never has a definite answer. We’re always experiencing new things every day, and new experiences continue to teach us and help us grow—if we’re strong enough to listen.
The boring answer is that I’m a military veteran and alumnus of Utah State University (go, Eggies!). The more complicated answer is a lot longer.
Places
I’ve had the privilege of traveling to some pretty amazing places (and taking some pretty cool pictures) here on old Mother Earth. There are way too many to go through, but here are just a few of my favorites from recent-ish days:
Right next to Robert Smithson's earthwork Spiral Jetty (1970). Located at Rozel Point peninsula on the northeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It felt like flying. Without wings. So, I guess it didn’t really feel like flying at all, but it was amazing.
Monterey, CA. This scene happened by complete chance, but it’s one of my favorite photos. It reminds me that no matter where we are, no matter when we are, the two most important factors are the people and the relationships around us. People make or break a society, and the more we understand and care for one another the better off we’ll all be—including the earth.
Cache Valley, UT. Let’s keep the snow cold.
Climate Change
And on that note… this is important. Let’s take it seriously:
Hi, Matt! Sorry to hear that your current kit doesn't meet your needs. We do have a larger 1/4" driver kit that goes up to PH #3 (Mahi).
That’s frustrating to hear. Hopefully the right to repair legislation changes this soon! Not providing parts to your customers is insane.
Hiya, Alberto! Great question. Smaller screws found in electronics aren’t particularly durable, and using a Phillips screwdriver on a Japanese Industrial Standard screw head (or vice versa) can lead to some pretty major problems. I highly recommend using the proper screwdriver or bit to avoid stripping screws.
Great question, Andrew! I personally removed these components due to their fragility. Smartphone cameras are often sealed with very small and delicate gaskets that can be compromised if too much heat is applied [during screen removal]. This can lead to a loss of waterproofing, an obstructed lens due to gasket movement, or damage to the lens itself. If you're comfortable skipping right to the screen assembly, go for it!
Thank you for your support, TheGeeZus! It's nice to hear that you enjoy our work, and you bring up a great point about ownership and repair as well. You can find some fantastic information at both ifixit.org/right and repair.org/stand-up.
Thanks for the extra tips, Jeroen! These two steps can be found at 2:50 of the video for those who want to skip right to it. ;)
We do supply the tape as well: Tesa 61395 Tape
By the way, does the guy in this video remind anyone else of Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels (aka Lars Mikkelsen?)
Hiya Craig! I'm glad to hear that your replacement went well even though you had the +frame replacement part. There are two screen replacement options for the 5X; the +frame replacement part for the 5X requires additional components and gaskets to be transferred from your old frame. I'll try to get a guide up for the LCD & digitizer +frame replacement part in addition to this guide.
Unfortunately, it looks like Moneual had some fraud issues and went under in 2014. It may be difficult to get your hands on replacement parts for the Rydis H68 Pro. =[
Hello Jay! Thank you for your comment. I've added some of the details you mentioned to help our readers. Guide specifics can vary since it's not always possible to judge the state of a reader's particular device, but that's the beauty of a repair wiki! We can all pitch in and create a comprehensive guide.
You are correct—additional components and/or parts may need to be transferred or removed depending on the replacement. You certainly can remove the LED panel, headphone jack, and vibration motor, but it is not required to free the LCD screen and digitizer in this guide. The cameras are removed in this guide due to their fragility and the potential for component damage during the replacement.
Always research replacement kits and parts before ordering, and make sure you've got everything you need for a successful repair!
