I was unable to successfully change my battery and repair my phone. Prior to starting the repair my phone worked normally aside from the poor battery performance and the fact that the bulging battery was pushing the screen assembly up from the main phone frame.
After following the steps I got stuck at Step 10 as the included Phillips 000 did not work. So I used another screwdriver I happened to have and managed to complete the step. Problem was that in my attempt to use the 000 it kept slipping and stabbing nearby components until I realized it just wasn’t actually catching and turning.
Next I made the mistake of following Step 13, which again proved problematic with the Phillips 000. After removing the 3 screws, I noticed the cable bracket was caught on something at the top of the bracket (even after unhooking the lip around the logic board). Long story short, got battery replaced, reassembled, unit turns on but the screen would not show anything. It would vibrate when connected to via USB cable but that’s it.
I also made the mistake of trying to remove the cable bracket. Once again I had to resort to another screwdriver since the included 000 in the battery kit did not work on these. But once I got the three screws removed I noticed the bracket’s top corner (near the top of the unit) was stuck even when I properly pulled the bracket back to unhook the lip from the logic board. I tried pulling it free every which way but nothing seemed to work so that’s when I checked the comments here and realized I shouldn’t have even bothered trying to remove it.
I can also confirm that the Phillips 000 that came with the kit did not work on these. I used another screwdriver from a glasses repair kit and that worked great. Seems odd they would include a tool that is unable to remove the battery connector bracket. I would have been up a creek if I didn’t have the right tool already.
