Hi Molly, I also have a mid-2010 13-inch MBP (MacBookPro 7,1 / 2.44 GHz). I recently replaced the HDD to a 500 gb SSD, upgraded the RAM from the original specs to 16 gb (2x8gb) - but you do need to be running macOS High Sierra in order to upgrade to 16 gb of RAM (I’m at the last OS of High Sierra 10.13.6 for my 2010 MBP). When researching the RAM upgrade, I did notice a lot of yea/nays but the 16gb worked for me. I installed a new battery as well and get much more than 3 hours of life. Possibly the battery is faulty? I haven’t tracked the battery life (yet) but it’s supposed to get near 10 hours. We’ll see. Running similar apps to what you mentioned. WRT to wifi - the only info. I can relay is that I did a “reset” (hit the reset button) on the tower/modem (that was per the phone company) as I had a similar issue. If the reset doesn’t work, then you *may* need to replace/upgrade tower.
Dan and Dave - thank you both for your earlier replies/comments. I ended up doing an upgrade as I suspected that my original HDD was failing. In the end I upgraded to 16gb (2x8gb) of RAM, 500gb SSD and a new battery.
Replaced 2 of these (3 years apart) on driver’s side. I love these tutorials! Thanks for your help! Also replaced the external handle on driver’s side - a little trickier but doable (and best done in a heated garage and not outside in February weather).
