Hello! My name is Crystal, and I’m working on a Master of Arts in English: Professional Writing degree at Northern Arizona University. I chose this major because I love the challenge of making complex topics more accessible. It may sound generic, but I want to use my skills to make a difference in the world. I plan to work as a technical writer/editor at an organization that makes people’s lives better.
I like fixing things—from clumsy sentences to broken furniture. My family has a background in construction, and I grew up surrounded by projects. Perhaps that’s why I don’t feel quite at home unless there’s a project to work on. Some of the things I have fixed include dressers, walls, and my trusty 13-year-old vacuum (pictured below). Repairing computers and other electronics seems daunting to me, but it’s something I want to learn to do.
IFIXIT’s mission inspires me. Through effective communication, we can create a healthier, more sustainable future. I hope to use my writing and editing skills to save the world, one repair at a time.
