Hi! I’m Yanqi Wang and I joined iFixit in August 2022 as the Chinese translator. I help to make iFixit more accessible to Chinese speakers. Even though I’m not the most tech-savvy person, but I think I’m quite handy. I'm used to fixing broken things, since things tend to break around me (I refuse to say I break things all the time). I learned how to repair things since I was young. Maybe that's why I really feel at home at iFixit.

Education 教育经历

I received master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from The University of Edinburgh where I also met my husband. Throughout my student life, studying English was my focus. I took translation classes in my undergraduate school. I really enjoyed going back and forth with words to find the best way to convey messages between English and Chinese.

我研究生就读于爱丁堡大学对外英语教学专业，并在爱丁堡读书时遇到了我的另一半。在我的整个学生生涯中，英语一直是我主要的学习方向。 在本科期间，我上了很多英汉翻译的课程。 我很享受反复推敲文字以找到最合适的翻译的过程。 可以说从那时候我就喜欢上了翻译。

Favorite repairs 最爱的维修

My favorite repair has to be the one time I brought this antique TV console back to life.

I had been searching for a TV console for a while, and all the ones I had seen were either too expensive or not the style I liked. Then, I spotted this beauty at an antique store for only $150! Not only did I save quite a bit of money by repairing this gem, but I also get to brag to all the people who come to my home: "Look, I fixed that!"

我最爱的维修莫过于将这个破旧的古董电视柜变废为宝。

我之前一直在找一个合适的电视柜，但是所有的电视柜不是太贵了就是不是我喜欢的款式。直到有一天我在古董店里看到了这么个$150的宝贝。这个维修不止帮助我省了好多钱，而且我得以向每个来到我家的人炫耀：看，那个玩意是我修复好的！

Experience 工作经历

Before I moved to US. I was an IELTS teaching for almost 3 years in New Oriental Education & Technology Group. I helped hundreds of students to improve their English in order to study in English speaking countries.

After relocating to the US, my main job is hotel management,my primary job is hotel management, which requires daily interaction with people. The translation job, on the other hand, offers me a balance between engaging with others and working independently.

在搬到美国前，我在新东方担任雅思老师。在这快3年的教书过程中，我帮助了上百名学生提升英语以更好地在英语国家学习。

在搬到美国以后，我的主业是每天都需要和人打交道的酒店管理。而翻译工作则为我提供了与他人工作和独立工作的平衡。

I’m a homebody and a foodie. I love Japanese animation, reading (I’m a fiction girl) and cooking. Well, I do like travelling. I did visit a few places before the pandemic, and I hope to travel more in the future.

My ideal vacation is staying at home and watching some more episodes of One Piece, Naruto, and new episodes of Demon Slayer. I would also read some new novels and enjoy homemade food.
