From what I know, pretty sure hardware development for this started (and likely finished) years ago and was mostly held back from earlier release because of lots of software changes and software issues, so I imagine a lot of design was done before Microsoft started focusing on easy repair like they did for the newer surface devices. Wouldn’t surprise me to see the second model be very different.
Looks great, much better than last year's. Pity about the glue for the screen. Would love to see screws. Know it's hard, because these are miracles of engineering, but there are lots of very smart men and women working on this, I'm sure they could find a way, especially since these are billed as enterprise devices, and having worked in an IT department, devices get broken a lot. No pen teardown? I'd imagine it's super similar to last year.
I want one of these even more now. Can't wait to see the Surface Book, if they managed to get one.
Thanks everyone at iFixit, keep up the good work. You're an inspiration to us all.
Is the set of huge connectors on the back of the motherboard in step 14 where the battery connects? They look too large for anything else.
Why does HTC like glue so much! It actually seems like it would make manufacturing harder (especially all that tape). At least this got a higher score than my M8. But I would have thought Google would have had a larger influence in some way. Google is the one giving them the ability to build this, after all.
You can just rip it off, it's plastic. They sell replacements on the internet for like $6, they come with adhesive on them. If you're worried about scratches, it's actually a coating that HTC put on the lens, and just scratches easily. You can read more about the issue and how to resolve it over at android central forums, everyone has this problem: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one...
That's a crappy coating HTC put on the lens. There's a thread on Android central forums that talks about how to resolve the issue: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one...
