Asus Eee PC 1000HA Troubleshooting

There is no sound coming out of my device ¶ 

Something is plugged into the audio jack ¶ 

If a pair of headphones are plugged in, unplug them and try again plugging them back in. Also unplug any external speaker or device you may have plugged into the audio jack or USB port. Check to see if the device is set on mute, or if the volume setting too low to hear.

The sound card is not installed ¶ 

To check this, click on "My Computer", select "Properties", open "Device Manager", look for “Sound Card” and click "Uninstall." Finally, restart your computer.

Audio Troubleshooting ¶ 

First press the "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Next search “Troubleshooter," and select "Trouble Shooting." After that, select "Troubleshoot Audio Playback." Finally, follow the remaining prompts.

The driver is outdated ¶ 

In order for Windows to recognize the sound card, it needs to have a compatible and working driver.

The device will not turn on ¶ 

The battery is not charged ¶ 

To check this, follow the power cord to the wall from the computer. Make sure the cord is plugged in correctly to the wall outlet and the computer. Check to see if the power cord has been damaged or frayed. Finally look to see if the charging light has lit up.

The battery is not seated properly ¶ 

Gently place the laptop upside down. Push the battery with a firm amount to pressure to see if is clipped in. If the battery does not clip, remove the battery by pressing both unlock tabs and gently slide the battery out. Lastly, clean the contact ports with compressed air, then place battery back in.

The device has a black screen ¶ 

The battery is not charged ¶ 

Make sure the laptop is on, powered up, and has a charged battery. Next, check the brightness setting of the screen. Preform a hard restart on the computer by holding the power button down until the computer turns itself off.

The keys on the key board are stuck ¶ 

Something is stuck under the keyboard ¶ 

Pick up the computer and turn it upside down. Gently tap the bottom of the computer until the object comes out or becomes visible. If you can locate the object, try to remove it with tweezers. If neither of these work, you can remove the key completely to see if anything is lodged underneath it.

Something has spilled under the keyboard ¶ 

If your key is stuck in the down position, take a tooth pick and try to remove any build up that could be under the key.

The USB port is not working ¶ 

Something is already plugged into the USB port ¶ 

Try unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Check to see if something is in the USB port that is blocking the port. Also, try to check the settings and make sure the device is listed and active.
