Failure to Read CD's and DVD's
Disc Drive will not open and therefore not read disc.
Broken/Defective Optical Drive
If the disc drive does not operate when accessed, one should replace the drive with a new drive. Another option would be to attach an external CD/DVD reader. To learn how to attach an external drive watch this video.
Faulty Trackpad
The cursor is not following where your finger goes on the trackpad.
Computer needs reboot
If too many tasks are going on at one time, it's possible that your Asus has gone into overload and just needs to be restarted. You can do this by holding down the power button and then once the screen has went completely black, press the power button again to restart.
Outdated Software
It's possible that your version of Windows is outdated. In order to update your version of Windows, go to the Windows website to download the new software. Access website here.
Audio is Distorted
You have trouble listening to the sounds on your Asus laptop.
Faulty Head Phone Jack
Test audio through the computer speakers, then test it using headphones. If the audio is only distorted while listening via headphones, the audio jack or the headphones themselves may be faulty. Audio that cuts in and out is often a sign of a loose audio jack, so make sure the audio jack is fully inserted in the computer. You can watch this video for further instruction.
Faulty Driver
If the audio sound is distorted when listening through the laptop’s speakers, the audio driver may be corrupt. If a driver is causing system crashes or instability, and if Windows is not operating correctly, you can should try to 1. Restart your computer 2. Make sure the hardware you are using is compatible with Windows 8 3. Update your driver.
Failure to show output from other sources
You experience trouble accessing output from other devices or there are intermittent screen blanks. This could include: USB, HDMI, Display Port etc.
Dust in Vents or Fans
Computers can fail to access output when there is excessive dust and other materials stuck in the vents and/or fan. To fix this, use a compressed air duster to carefully blow the dust off the vents and/or fan.
Disabled Display
Make sure that the display is not accidentally disabled. To do this, press one of the “Fn” keys in the lower corner of the keyboard and then press “F2.” If the display was disabled by accident, then this will re-enable the display.
Bent Metal Within Port
The most common issue is that the metal is either bent upward or downward in the wrong direction. One can generally fix this problem by using a pen to push the metal to the correct placement. If this does not work, it is recommended that you visit your local technology store for professional maintenance.
Failure to Read USB connections
You have trouble accessing files from USB's.
USB not fully plugged in
If one has tried to push the USB device in but it will not go in completely, then it is possible that there may be something stuck in the USB port, either the one in the laptop or the one that is being pushed into the laptop. To check this just shine a light at the USB port and make sure it is clear; in the event that it isn't clear, very carefully use a set of tweezers to dislodge the debris. The same goes for if there is some kind of debris in the USB device being plugged into the laptop.
