Unresponsive Keyboard
Certain keys are unresponsive/require excessive force, or are missing from the keyboard.
Missing Keys
Replace any missing keys.
Faulty Keyboard
If none of the keys on the keyboard are responding at all, replace the entire keyboard.
Keys are Jammed or stuck
If keys require abnormal force to be activated, there is a good chance that physical debris is trapped beneath the keys. To fix this issue, remove the problem key and check for debris underneath. If debris is present, it should be removed using a q-tip or toothpick. Once completely clean, firmly press the key back into its correct position.
Computer Fails to Power On
Your Asus Q501LA is not powering on.
Defective Battery
Plug laptop into its provided wall charger, and attempt to power on the unit. If the device only turns on when plugged into an external power supply, regardless of charge time, then the battery is defective and can be replaced using this guide.
Touchscreen Function is Unresponsive
The touchscreen function works only in selective areas or does not work entirely.
Only Certain Areas of Touchscreen are Responsive
Re-calibrate the touch screen by going to the "Hardware and Devices" setting found on the start menu of the laptop. From here choose the option to calibrate the laptop. If parts of the touchscreen remain unresponsive after doing so, you have either weak electrical connections or your whole screen is faulty. Check connections using the guide linked below.
No Parts of Touchscreen are Responsive
Re-calibrate the touch screen using the above instructions. If this does not fix the issue then your entire screen is defective. Proceed to replace the entire screen.
Weak Wireless Connection
Wireless router will not connect or wireless connection drops randomly.
Router Won't Connect
Turn off wireless connections. Turn off the router to reset the connection entirely. Wait a few seconds and then turn the router back on. After this, turn wireless connection back on and re-authorize the router-to-laptop connection. This can be done by right-clicking the wireless symbol and left-clicking the “forget this network” button. You will then be prompted to re-authorize the connection when trying to use that network.
Wireless Connection Drops Randomly
Check to see if the wireless connection is out of range of the device in use. If so, either move the router to a closer position or move the device in range of the router. Generally, the closer the device is the stronger the connection to the wireless router.
Overheating
Fan is extra loud or laptop is excessively hot to the touch.
Debris in Fan Housing
If the device surface is overly hot and the fan is making more noise then usual, one issue could be that the cooling fan is dirty or clogged. Take off the back paneling of the laptop using this guide and if the fan is dirty, use a can of compressed air to blow directly onto the fan and clean the blades/surrounding thoroughly.
Surface of Device is Excessively Hot
If the laptop is left running in a position where the bottom has no gaps for the exhaust or intake of air cooling to vent, this can result in overheating. Avoid putting laptop on surfaces that are soft and pliant as these can wrap around the vents and block air flow. The use of a solid flat surface as a base will allow for proper air flow and the avoidance of overheating.
