Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Verizon Troubleshooting
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, also known as the Samsung SM-T335, was released on April 1, 2014. We have evaded the trouble to physically open up the tablet and created an easy and convenient troubleshooting guide.
- Tablet will not turn on
- Tablet screen is frozen or unresponsive
- Tablet touch screen responds too slowly
- Tablet charges too slowly
- Tablet has a weak Wi-Fi reception
Tablet will not turn on
No matter what you do, you cannot start or turn on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0.
Press and hold the Power/Lock button
Before proceeding to dismantle your tablet, simply press and hold the power/lock button longer for about 30 seconds. If your tablet still does not turn on, do not panic yet, instead read on.
If the tablet is still not turning on, you may simply have a dead battery. Plug in the tablet to the power charger. After a few minutes, the battery symbol should appear as an indication that the tablet is charging. If the tablet does not display this symbol, try again and press the power/lock button.
Unfortunately, the battery will age along with the tablet. If none of the previous steps helped revive your tablet, it could mean that the tablet's battery is drained. Replacing the battery will be the solution to fix this problem.
It may be possible that the tablet appears to be off because the display is bad. If you can hear sound, but the tablet still appears to be off, it may be a calling for you to replace the display.
Tablet screen is frozen or unresponsive
Any touch to the screen does not generate an action or the tablet is completely black.
Restart the tablet
Before opening up your tablet, hold your power/lock button down for about a minute. This will turn the tablet completely off without you having to use touch gestures on the screen. Let your tablet rest for about 30 seconds. After waiting, you can press the power/lock button again for about 10 seconds. This will restart the tablet. The tablet, if restarted properly, will begin normal working functions.
If your tablet won't turn on and the screen remains black, your battery may simply be dead. You can check the battery by plugging it in your designated Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 charger. If a charging symbol is displayed then the tablet is successfully charging. After waiting for about 15 minutes, you can check if the tablet will restart. If it still appears black, it may be possible that the battery is bad and it will be necessary to replace it.
If the tablet displays darkness and does not respond to any solution, then a bad display is the cause. If the display is blacked out and you have a clue on what might have caused it (e.g. dropping it, water damage, cracked screen, etc.) then you may proceed to replace the damaged display.
If none of these solutions work for your tablet, then the problem is in the motherboard. In this situation, you will have to replace your motherboard.
Tablet touch screen responds too slowly
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 touch screen responds too slowly to simple or multi-touch gestures.
Turn off power saving mode
Before dismantling into your tablet, make sure that the power saving mode is turned off. Open the notification panel by sliding down from the top of the screen, then tap the settings icon. Tap on power saving mode and then slide the switch to the left to turn off the power saving mode. Another way to get to the power saving mode tab from the home screen is to click on apps, then settings, and under Device touch the power saving mode tab. After opening the power saving mode tab, slide the On/Off switch to turn the power saving mode off.
Turn on safe mode to uninstall applications
Press and hold the power/lock button until the tablet option prompt appears, at this moment release the power/lock button. Press and hold the power/lock button until the reboot in safe mode prompt appears, at this moment release. Tap Restart and safe mode will appear shortly after on the lower left of the home/unlock screen. If the tablet runs faster once safe mode is enabled, it can be an indication that one of the apps is causing the problem. To exit safe mode simply turn the tablet off and then back on the normal way. The next step would be to uninstall all of the apps and reinstall each individual app one at a time. After installing each app, check to see if the tablet has begun to slow down. Uninstall the app that is causing a slow response.
Too many applications are installed or running
Open the notification panel by sliding you finger down from the top of the screen, then tap on settings. Tap the application manager. Swipe to the right to get a list of all the applications and services running in the background. Tap on one of the applications, then tap on the stop icon to stop the application. After a prompt is displayed tap OK. To return to the home screen or settings page, tap the back or home button.
If the tablet's touch screen is still slow, the cause might be the tablet's motherboard. Since no troubleshooting shortcut will boost the efficiency and speed of the tablet, the only option would be to replace the motherboard.
Tablet charges too slowly
You've noticed that your tablet is taking quite some time to fully charge.
If your Samsung Galaxy Tablet 4 8.0 is having difficulties charging completely, the cause might be a drained battery. In most cases, you might have to replace your battery with a new one. However, in the future, make sure you power off your device from time to time. Also, do not use the tablet while it is charging. This could further contribute to the tablet's battery drainage.
If your tablet is still charging slowly, perhaps there could be a kink in the cable or the power adapter is not designed for your tablet. Make sure that you charge your tablet with its original charger. If you do not have one, consider buying one at a designated electronics store and ask for the tablet's specific charger. Using other adapters and/or using a different kind of charging cable could further damage the battery, as well as physically damage the tablet's slot.
Tablet has a weak Wi-Fi reception
No matter how close the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 is to the router, you cannot connect the tablet to Wi-Fi.
Not connected to a Wi-Fi account
Check the Wi-Fi settings by going to the settings tab, then Wi-Fi, and ensure the Wi-Fi button is turned on. Also, select the strongest Wi-Fi signal and enter the correct password. If it does not work, select forget this network, and then re-enter the password.
If you tablet still cannot connect to the router after changing the settings of the tablet, it might be a router issue. Turn your router off, wait 30 seconds and then turn it on again. Check the router signal lights. If the router indicates an error, contact your internet company.
If other electronic devices can connect to the router, but your tablet cannot, it might be a software issue. Reset your tablet by holding the power/lock button down until the device screen turns black, release the power button and your tablet will restart. Otherwise, you can restore the tablet by going to factory settings. It is strongly suggested to back-up the information on your tablet before you restore it.
Wi-Fi device crashed
If none of the previous steps helped, it can be an indication that the Wi-Fi chip might be damaged. It may be necessary to replace the Wi-Fi chip or the printed chip board.
Walls interfering or too many users
If your tablet still has a weak Wi-Fi reception, walls or buildings may be interfering with the signal. Try to move your location to see you can find better signal elsewhere. Alternately, sometimes too many users may be connected to the Wi-Fi router, so you can try to select another Wi-Fi account to connect to the internet.
