I think audio cable you are referring to is the volume/mute ribbon cable, which has nothing to do with the main speaker not working.

The main speaker is connected to the charging port which in turn is then connected to the logic board, so the issue you have would need one of these replaced. On a side note some cases the phone could be stuck in 'headphone mode', which is where the device thinks that headphones are plugged in even though there are none present. Which again can be fixed with a charging port replacement because by chance the headphone jack and charging port share the same ribbon cable.
