Check if the fingerprint sensor is showing in ''Device Manager > Biometric Devices''

If it is determined that it is a hardware problem and not software, here's the [http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04853478.pdf|maintenance and service guide] for the laptop. Go to p.61 to view the procedure to remove/replace the fingerprint reader assembly. The HP part number for the assembly is shown at the top of p.61. Search online using the ''part number only'' to find suppliers that suit you best.
