Any way to upgrade RAM

I know that there's everything stuck with glue in my Computer, but not everything, I mean I've upgraded my SSD to 480GB with the OWC Mercury Aura Pro. Is there any way to upgrade the Ram ?

I mean you guys from iFixit have screwed everything out and if that's possible I think there's also a way to get to the RAM isn't it ????

It’s not that difficult.

Who ever said microsoldering is easy? I'll bet an average joe off the street could not do this on the spot.

@wimberleymac - Please show us how to do it!

Write up a guide. Put in all of the parts info and how you desoldered and re-soldered the RAM chips and how you programed the driver logic.

Simple answer - No, Apple doesn't offer a means to upgrade the RAM (soldered in).

Complex answer - Still No!

Lets say you could desolder the RAM chips you are likely damage one or more solder pads and then there is the issue of what to put in place of the chips you took out. You would likely need to change out the driver logic to support the larger RAM and you might even need to run patch lines across the bd to get it to support the RAM you put in. Then you have the size issue are you able to find low profile chips of the larger size available that fit in the limited space? Then you have the heat and power issues to deal with.

By the time you did all of this the cost would be quite high and the reliability of the system highly questionable. I'm sure Apple at some future point will offer a system with more RAM than they offer today but I think thats at least a year or two away.

That is for 2016-17 models.

For what reason was my post voted down?

That is for 2016-17 models and does not work with the 2012

Interesting video, but in the end you need about 200$ for the ICs+custom duties+taxes+work..let's say 400/500$ total customer bill ?

I don't think I'd have people queing to pay that money for a 8GB RAM upgrade if I'd start offering that service.

You can just forget about it on the OP related board in question where you have _32_ RAM modules to replace, not 4. It's all good about these videos if the purpose is to sell yourself as a microsoldering wonderboy, I should start shooting some videos myself some day, but let's try to be practical too :)

@mayer How is the process different?
