What's wrong? Replaced mobo but new battery won't charge.

Hi ifixit community, hoping you can help me on this one.

I replaced a water-damaged Macbook (mid-2008) logic board and it now works, however it doesn't work properly when the battery is plugged in.

I figured it just needed a new battery but even the brand new battery does not charge in the Macbook nor does the Macbook function properly with it plugged in.

Remember the Macbook works fine off the wall charger with no battery installed.

What component still needs to be replaced to get this to work?

The water damage might have also affected the battery connector. I would try replacing that piece. Another possible problem is that in some macbooks, there are "energy star" versions and "non-energy star" versions of the logic boards. You might've replaced yours with the incorrect version. I don't know that that would cause the problems that you speak of, but it is certainly something to consider. You can check your old and new logic boards by looking for the words "energy star". Energy star versions will say "energy star" somewhere on the board, where as the non energy star versions will not.

Good luck!

That sounds about right, thanks! I noticed some blackened pins on the battery connector when I had taken it apart the first time... maybe that should have been a head's up. To be honest, I figured it was that part but I didn't know what it was called.

Or if it was the possibilty it was anything else, for that matter.

This did not solve my problem, unfortunately. Is it possibly the inverter?
