Can I replace the display backlight

The display on my MacBook Pro A1260 is pretty black except for a barely visible image of the apple icon as it boots up and the main screen after booting up. I think that the problem must be the backlight in the display. I have a couple of used A1226 and A1260 displays that have either horizontal or vertical lines on the display but the lighting and image is perfect other than that. Can I take the backlight out of one of the used displays and use it to replace the bad backlight in my laptop?

Thanks for your response Alfonso. I have already connected both of the extra used displays that I mentioned in my original post and they both light up and work perfectly except for the lines I mentioned. Is there a website that gives instructions on how to disassemble and reassemble the backlight? If not can you go into more detail Alfonso? I will appreciate any help that you can give me. Thanks again

Alfonso, thanks again for your desire to help. I would very much appreciate a picture of the actual LCD. Also there is a yellow notification with red letters on the back of the display that states "DO NOT TOUCH THE WHITE TAPE". How is the tape removed without touching it? Do I need to use rubber gloves or other devices to remove it?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge concerning this matter. Even though, I have sucessfully changed out several complete displays, logic boards, etc. I have never attempted to change the backlight on this model MacBook Pro. Refering to the LCD board, is that the circuit board on the back of the display or is it the one inside the laptop case near the magsafe charger connection?

I highly suggest using the other displays to see if the backlight actually works. My suspicion is that the MagSafe board (connects to the backlight) is faulty. It could also be the cables. If hats the case and you have enough skill to repair the MagSafe board then you won't need a replacement but worst case scenario that part is replaceable.

As for taking out the backlight it's a little difficult as its all taped but it is doable. You just have to be very careful not to crack the LCD.

There's a ribbon that connects to the board of the LCD (backlight ribbon). You need to have the same model LCD as these machines have many lcds. Basically take out the LCD (minus the backlight) and you can swap it over to the other backlight frame.

First thing you can do is unplug the ribbon for the backlight in the defectives lcds and try connecting it onto the working LCD. This is just to check that the problem not within the LCD board. Next if you look behind the screen you will see there's a bunch of tape and double sided tape on the edges. If you'd like I can take a picture of what just the LCD looks like. You will need to remove the tape that holds the LCD board (it's attached to the LCD) once that comes off and everything is loose the lcd lifts off and I'd suggest doing the transplant right away or else you risk getting dust which will show in a white screen
