How to remove photos marked "from My Computer"

I have photos on my iPhone 4S that are labeled "from My Computer" and I would like to delete them. I have checked my computer and found they are not on my computer. When I click on them, I don't get an option to delete them. Any thoughts on how to remove them? The phone is going to be traded in and I would like to remove them first.

Apple has a good knowledge base article, HT4236, that explains how to sync and/or remove photos from your iPhone. These are the instructions that they supply for removing synced ("My Computer") photos from your iPhone:

  1. In iTunes, click the Device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.)
  2. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
  3. Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete. Note: To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."
  4. Click Apply.

Alternately, if you're trading in or selling the iPhone I would recommend that you wipe the data off completely, not just the photos. You can do this from the iPhone:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap on General
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap on Reset
  4. Tap on "Erase All Content and Settings"
  5. Enter your iPhone's lock code and tap OK to erase everything

Once it's finished, usually after a few minutes, it will be just as it was from the factory.

Thanks!!!! that was driving me bonkers!

Thank you very much. Was able to delete photos on I phone from my computer. The command says 'selected folder' rather than 'selected albums' but some common sense is necessary for using the I phone!

To delete photos that have been synced from a computer that's no longer accessible:

Create a folder on the computer that you now sync with, and add a single photo to that folder.

In the Photos tab in iTunes, click the box next to "Sync Photos From."

In the pop-up menu next to "Sync Photos From," choose the folder you created in step 1.

Apply the change.

Uncheck "Sync Photos From."

Apply the change again.

Your synced photos will now be removed from the device.

ok so i was having this same issue, im using ios 8 as well ...

go into your itunes and click on the little phone icon. Click on "photos", then make sure there is a little check mark in the "Sync Photos from" icon, choose the Desktop , and click apply in the bottom right of the screen . You should get a "remove ...message" and hit ok.

Then go back up and uncheck the "Sync photos from " icon.

Hopefully this will work for you!

You can just go ahead and restore the iPhone and that should solve the problem in about 20-60 mins, depending if you need to download the required IPSW.

this is not a good ideal. A restore would delete other data without notice. The best practice is using a program to bulk delete iPhone photos. This is a better option form my own opinion.

To wipe iPhone all photos permanently ,you need to use a professional iPhone eraser application. To save your time ,you can try Coolmuster iOS Eraser which is a quicker and easier data erasing process on ios devices at once.

You have to notice that the deleted data can be recovered by others with some advanced skill. So you cannot count on simple deletion. Safewiper iPhone Data Eraser make it possible for iDevice users to wipe all personal data from iDevice and reset system setting. It's worth mentioning that no data recovery software can recover any personal data from the device after your erasing. So you are free from worries of leakage of personal information.

The fastest way to delete iPhone photos is to open the photos app, tap Photos on the bottom left, enter the Moments view, tap Select, then select photos you want to delete and remove.

I've had the same issue and couldn't find a solution online.

I found a perfect solution though, what i did was:

Go to Photos > Computer Photos > Select All> Duplicate

This ultimately add all the computer photos to your camera roll where you can delete them freely.

As for the computer pics you no longer need, you can use the solutions provided before; one of which is to remove the sync in iTunes, or syncing with a new folder and removing the old pics.

Hope this helps ! xxx

If you don't have access to the pc from which you've synced photos then go to settings in your iphone check iCloud photo library Uncheck it (turn off it) and turn on it.

Simple you'll get a notification about removing synced photos by which you can choose to proceed or not.

Those photos are synced from computer maybe with iTunes or some third-party apps, you can't delete them directly on iPhone. iTunes helps :

Step 1. Open iTunes and connect with your iDevice. Click the Device button.

Step 2. Under photos > choose Sync Photos > Choose "Copy photo from Photos" > Below check "Selected Albums" but DO NOT select any albums > Make sure there is 0 photos you choose > Apply.

You can also go to Settings, Icloud, and turn on you’re photos to automatically upload and safely store. That way you don’t have to mess with your computer. It asks if you want to take them off or not. Worked great and I didn’t have to download itunes on my computer.

Hi, You can just try to restore the phone or you can go to the iCloud library and uncheck the option. Also, if you are having some duplicate photos then you can try a third-party software like Duplicate Photos Fixer Pro.
