Hitachi HDD - can it be replaced by Seagate Hybrid SSD/HD?

I want to speed up my iMac while maintaining a decent capacity, so I´m considering the hybrid HD/SSD from Seagate. iFixit warns to replace the HDD with a model of the same brand that´s been built in, in my case Hitachi. Is it possible to replace my Hitachi disk with the Seagate hybrid anyway?

You'll need to replace the hard drive temperature sensor cable with the one for the Seagate drives. That part number is 922-9216. The Hitachi is part # 922-9215.

Thanks! Mayer - Stuck at home today.

Send some of that snow down to Texas!

Snow wasn't to bad my way. Had a sick dog that needed to see the vet. Of course it would be on a snowy day that I would have to take him ;-{

Yes, but you'll need to replace the special power cable as the connector interface is a little different for the thermal sensor.

I don't have the manual with me right now I'll post the P/N's later for you.

Thanks a lot!!!

Thought you might find this informative Putting hard drive reliability to the test shows not all disks are equal. While it implies Seagate drives are more prone to failure. My experience doesn't track what they are stating (I see about the same number of drive failures across Seagate & WD in Mac systems). As with everything you need to compile data from many sources.

Thanks, you guys are great!
