Why does my iPod show a folder with a warning sign?
My iPod shows a folder with a warning sign and below it the words www.apple.com/support/iPod. What could the problem be and how can it be fixed?

normally that would mean that the hard drive of the iPod needs to be replaced - any clicking sounds in the past ?

There are several different warning signs that Apple uses. Please take a look at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1378
to identify which one you have and the probable fix.
