Does anyone make a DDR RAM greater than 1GB?

I want to upgrade the RAM on my iBookG4. I can't use DDR2 RAM, and the only RAM I can find is only 1GB capacity. I have a 1GB stick in there already, but the computer is running slow. I need something faster, but can't afford a new computer. Does anyone know how to get more RAM in this thing? Please help, and thank-you,

Jon

The maximum RAM on your machine is 1.25 GB. Defragmenting the files and optimizing the hard drive may help you recover some speed. The major problem people have with this machine is pushing the operating system to the limit. I wouldn't take it past 10.4.

Standard RAM: 256 MB Maximum RAM: 1152 MB*

Details: *Apple reports that the maximum memory capacity of this system is 640 MB with 128 MB onboard and a 512 MB SO-DIMM. However, third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 1152 MB with the 128 MB onboard and a single 1.0 GB memory module.

Unfortionatly, the largest capacity a single stick of DDR(1) Ram (Laptop or desktop) available is 1GB, this is because of the standard that DDR(1) uses.

Hi

Yes DDR / DDR1 as it's also known is made in 128k, 256k, 512k, 1024k / 1g & I recently found 2048k / 2g

evidence of it's existance is ebay advert for item 262406707321 each ram stick is 2g and is std DDR spec as follows HP 373030-851 DDR 2GB PC-3200 Reg ECC 400Mhz 2Rx4 RAM Memory, furthermore other evidence of it's existance is ebay advert for item 272707651432 each ram stick is 2g and is std DDR spec as follows: 2GB Qimonda HYS72D256220HBR-5-B PC3200R 400MHz DDR1 ECC Server memory more evidence of it's existance is ebay advert for item 282692555927 each ram stick is 2g and is std DDR spec as follows: 2GB Qimonda DDR1 PC3200R 400mhz CL3 Ecc Reg Server-Ram Hys72d256220hbr-5-b

Now I'm pretty sure these are as common as rocking horse manure so it's not something you'll see often so if punching some life into antique hardware that's got ten minutes to live is your game, yes it does exist

Personally I wouldn't bother its far more economical to re-power a system with new M/board CPU & Ram with a new HDD & fresh install of your O/s of choice then chain the old & new drive via the motherboard & copy all the data and program install files onto the fresh HDD (please note HDD's do have a finite life) and having a full copy of your data or an image of your drive is the best disaster recovery tool you can have

Kind Regards

Yes, 2GB DDR1 server RAM exists, but putting it in a consumer desktop computer will do nothing. Server RAM is designed differently. The sticks I have are non-reg, non-ecc desktop RAM and I've used it in a shuttle micro PC

Actually, I have a few sticks of DDR1 2100U 2GB. Its non-standard (some machines won't recognize it as 2GB) and it has double stacked chips (32 chips on the DIMM).

I would be interested in two of those chips what price do you want?

Don't bother the iBook G4 only supports one 1 GB DIMM. With its built-in RAM you get a max of 1.5 GB of RAM.

I should mention its desktop RAM

As this RAM is not built for a laptop, won't work in this machine, why did you post this in the first place?

Just to point out that it is theoretically possible, just that compatibility may have issues. The ram appeared to be custom built, so its likely very rare.
