Why does my screen go black during calls?

I had the same problem. Check the old lcd, it has a small rubber with 2 holes where the proximity sensor fits into, it aligns and holds the sensor in the proper position.

This is why so many people have this problem because its unnoticeable at a quick glance.

I have the same problem until I cleaned the sensor beside the front camera,and I stopped experiencing it immediately

I have just sorted one of these out. We replaced a full display and after a couple of weeks customer got in touch to say the double tap on function did not work and when on a phone call, the screen would not illuminate when removed from ear until the other person hung up.

Proximity sensor covers these issues.

There was an very slight gap between the rubber proximity sensor seal and the screen glass, gently pushed the rubber seal onto the glass, reinstalled the sensor and put a small bit of card over the top of the sensor before putting the black plastic cover back onto the top circuit board.

Result, sensor works great on calls and double tap works both to wake and switch screen off

I took a small screw driver and scratched of the tint in that part of the screen and it worked like a charm. You can see the censers but my customer did not care as long as it worked. Also an option.

• select Device Test
• Select Individual Item
• Sensor Test
• preform test and try to re-calibrating the sensor

For those who don't want to pull the phone apart to fix the sensor alignment, here are three other options beyond what's already been mentioned:

1) Use the Sensor Disabler app to disable to proximity sensor (https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...)

That's what I did, but it requires the phone to be rooted and Xposed to be installed. The proximity sensor doesn't work anymore, but I don't really care since I can manually turn off the screen when necessary.

2) Go to Settings > Accessibility > Power button ends call

3) Use a Bluetooth headset/device to end the call

The last two options don't help with the black screen during the call, but they give you control to end it.

If your gaskets are in place, and it is snapped securely into the housing, then it is the tInt on the LCD window of the proximity sensor you may need to scrape it off

For the LG G2, the problem is actually pretty simple. Don't install the proximity sensor while it's still on the black retaining bracket. If you leave the sensor in the bracket, and push it down far enough for the bracket to click into place, the rubber gasket prevents the actual sensor from going in as far as it should. So:

Step 1: Remove the sensor flex from the black retention bracket.

Step 2: Install the sensor into the gasket. Now that there's no bracket, you can see it go all the way to the bottom of the rubber gasket.

Step 3: Install the retention bracket.

Step 4: Put the sticky (taped) back part of the flex back onto the bracket.

Step 5: Install logic board and test for functionality.

Ever since I started doing this, I have much less problems with the prox sensors on the G2. There are still occasional problems, but it's usually just because the prox sensors LG put in the G2 are junk, and break easily.

here is what you do , i had same problem I just opened back cover and tightened the small screw behind the sensor and worked better than when i bought it knew . the screw get loose when dropped and the screen gets raised up and block part of sensor and and light do not get to sensor . try it, it worked for me like charm for me . the sensor works better than when i bought it , the phone sensor responds in less than a second. good luck.

How many of you with the screen blackout issue during calls HAVE A SCREEN PROTECTOR FILM COVERING THE SENSOR BAY?

After reading some of the comments, someone suggested the proximity sensor was getting false positives from reflection from the screen window itself.

Is it possible certain screen protectors worsen, magnify or complicate this issue?

The screen blackout issue is pretty new to my phone, and i DID just put a screen protector on in the past week.

To dad insult to injury, it's actually an iPhone 6 protector i got on clearance which i cut to fit my LG Lucky with an Xacto knife.

Please comment on this thread if it fails to solve the problem, or actually works.

i will cut a piece away over the sensor area and post an update if the undesired operation changes.

You're missing the little rubber piece that separates the two sensors (presumably requires two separate light inputs to determine distance) that sits underneath the proximity sensor and against the screen. Look for the rubber piece (if you just replaced your screen) and put it back in, and you're golden. The problem isn't with the screen not being designed right, it's that you're missing the rubber piece that does the job of splitting the light sources.

Hi this is ted the real reason it goes the screen goes black is that all new phones are built to to have the camera lens come on and snap a photo. Of the user when you use the phone if you cover or tape the camera lens the phone wont work right.like i saidthe phone makers are require by the gov. To do this that way if someone or you calls a terrorist or lest say a terrorist act they will have a photo of that person so dont cover your lenz or it wont WORK properly

I had this problem on two Tracfones with different phone numbers. To try to keep their identity straight I attached a small strip of tape with each phone number along the top of the phones screen. Later when I tried to dial a number I got the immediate black screen thing. I never thought about the proximity sensor “seeing” this little strip of tape. I spent hours on the phone with Tracfone tech support without resolving the problem. I checked online, saw this forum and this thread and the lightbulb lit up. I removed the tape and PROBLEM FIXED!
