Blackened screen on my 4s

My 4s screen darkened to half, froze & was followed by a while after with a completely black screen. All seems to be working behind screen as far as I can judge. Phone rings OK.

I have tried shutting it down without success. I took it off charge only an hour prior to this problem. I have since put it back on charge, hoping beyond hope this may magically solve the problem. I don't think so and me thinks it is time for an upgrade!

Do a hard reset press power and home button togeather for 7 seconds then let go of home and keep pressing power ..

Was it dropped or anything?

Thank you Con, I thought you had breathed life into the 4s but, after 2 x 1 second flashes of the 'Apple' logo there was nothing.

No it was not dropped. It froze with a half lit screen then to black without dropping it.

An update Con,

When trying out your suggestion, I had the 4s disconnected from power lead. Around 10 minutes later I put it back on charge and VOILA, it came to life as for turning on from shutdown.

I have just had the same problem with my iphone 4s. Tried the suggested actions above posted by con and it worked. Iphone now working again. Thank you so much.
