Digitizer cable broken (replacement on way)
I've purchased an iPad Mini which has the cable from the digitizer cable torn/snapped in the middle. From the guides i've read and the pics it looks like the rest of the cable is still connected which looks like the LCD Will also connect to.
My questions are:
It seems important to switch off the iPad before beginning but how can i be sure it's switched off?
Will the iPad still power on without a digitizer being connected?
If it will switch on without the digitiser how can i switch it off without causing damage?

I've received a new digitizer and battery and replaced both (not screwed everything in yet just all the cables connected.
So far nothing seems to happen, holding the power button for 30-60 seconds does nothing. plugging into a PC doesn't do anything and iTunes doesn't even pick anything up.
Are there any other tests I can do before writing it off?
