Will the newer 12.5 mm height hard drives fit, or will it only accommodate the 9.5 mm drives?

I took mine apart and tried to fit a 1 tb hard drive in it. it was a tight fitjust to get it into the correct place and when i tried to screw on the airpor metal mesh thing. it would not fit at all. in the process i broke the clip for the ir reciever (if any body knows where i can get one of these that would be great. and the screw part to were the metal mesh screws down to the case (it just popped out). so in short answer, no 12.5 mm height hard drives.

Could someone in ifixit please remove the black plastic cover of the harddrive to see how thermal sensors connects to drive? Because according the guy in some other forums sensors are not user replaceble and requires Apple involvement :(

Thanks.

I swapped in a 500g 7200rpm drive. I found 2 sensors attached, one to the drive itself, one to the sata connector. I carefully removed the one from the drive, and managed to have a bit of glue still on it, then pressed it onto the replacement drive. The one on the sata connector, do not remove, it stays with the connector.

If you do not have any stickums left on the sensor, then you will need some type of glue that will allow thermal transfer.

We've been a tech for many years and tried to add a 1TB drive to our mini and while we DID get it to fit and we were able to completely reassemble the mini, the mini would not boot up. It's a shame because it probably only needs another 2 mm of space to make it work. I am now using a 750 Gb drive and waiting for a 9.5 1TB drive to come to market.

I was able to fit a WD 1Tb 2.5" 12.5mm drive in my 2Ghz Mini. The plastic cage that holds the DVD and hard drive is not designed to hold the 12.5mm height drive, but it is made of plastic and it bends nicely. :) You should probably be ready to accept the chance that it will break your mini however.

I run Linux on my mini~
