Cleaning action went wrong, now my Mac has Problems to start

Hi guys,

something stupid happend to me.

I tried to clean my keyboard and wiped with a tine sponge (sponge for cleaning a Fotocamera-sensor) between the right side of the EJECT-key (the key you press to get the CD out of the optical drive) and the case.

Suddenly the sponge slipped between the Eject key and the case and disappeared.

I released the eject key and tried to pull the sponge with a sharp metall tweezers (that was the only tool I had in this moment, probably a stupid choice?!) out .

I got almost everything out.

Everything was working fine at this moment.

But in the night I watched a film via VLCplayer in fullscreen and my Mac freezes. I did a cold restart (pressing the On BUtton several Minutes). Everything was fine again.

4 Days later I burned 20 DVDs and in the evening I watched a film again via VLC player full screen mode and it freezes again, so I had to shut it down hard (press On button).

But since than the tragody begann. It didn't want to start. It just showed a gray screen with the turning symbol and after 2 minutes the gray curtain cames with the white words *you have to restart you computer ...*.

I tried to start in SafeModus, that worked one time. The mac started properly again.

But the it freezes again while I was wathcing an internetstream via firefox.

Just stuff happend to me to often the last days.

So it could be a software problem or maybe I destroyed something with my cleaning mistake??? So that disconnection is the problem.

Do you have any idea?

I already released and reassamble the RAM (but Mac still doesnt start). BEcause I thought maybe they are not properly on there place. I used my Mac 2 weeks ago in the car while we were driving off road. And 6 month ago it had fallen down from the sofa on its left side on to the eletricity-plug.

And some friend said, maybe a part of the sponge came into the right fan. Put it sounds the same like everytime. Or how can I figure out if it's working?

I think the sponge sliped on to the display cable. it also sounded like tipping on plastic when I was in there.

Thanks a lot for you help and suggestions.

Sorry for my english mistakes, it's not my mother tongue. Hopefully I used the wright words t:-Do discribe my problems.

Cheers

Duderit

If you're ready to DIY

open it up and see if there's sponge parts floating around inside! You can't just leave a foreign object in there.

The fact that the strange behavior started after losing something inside points towards that being the cause of your problem.

The "grey screen" is a kernel panic - they can be caused by hardware OR software (I lean toward hardware because a foreign object was dropped into the case).

If the sponge was wet corrosion could be developing inside, it can be cleaned off with a soft brush and 99% alcohol (brush carefully).

If this answer is acceptable please return and mark it.

Good Luck,

N.

HI Machead,

I opened it up yesterday. Inside everything looked fine. No scratches, no corrosion and no spongepieces. Just some dust. But after 4 years it look very well inside. I expected some dead ants inside ;-).

So I think and hope it is a kernel-panic, caused by software, so that a scan by discutility or at the end a reinstall will solve the problem.

I will report when I hopefully get my MBP run again.

Kind regards
